  • A New Bedroom!

    Pieces of summer 060

After 3 months of stripping, sanding, staining and completely refinishing my dresser/vanity and bed frame, I'm done!! I was certain it would never happen, but I finally got it all put together last weekend and here are the before and after shots :) This was my bedroom before... I painted it green when I was 16... I'll be 30 in February :)

  • Vday

So apparently I am only updating on holidays :)... for the two of you who may still read this.

Life has been a whirlwind these last two months... made a trip to Chicago with Mindi for New Years, put on another program at my school, and was involved in a musical at the Fine Arts Center, "The Full Monty" which was an absolute riot! That just closed yesterday so this president's day I may not make it out of my sweats or out of the house... I love it :).

Valentine's Day was actually pretty painless and even, dare I say, fun. It started of with a tax appointment, only way to start a VDay really, and I cried when I found out how much I owed the goverment, but then when I got a phone call later stating that since I didn't get a government stimulus check this year I would be getting a refund instead, the day got better. I had three single girl friends of mine over and I made a killer lunch... asian salad, cornbread muffins, baked chicken, wild rice, asparagus, wine, and gingerbread brownies... and we ate and talked and listened to Stephen Sondheim ballads (because they are all theater people so they could appreciate my funny taste in music), then watched a bootlegged copy of Wicked... it was a wonderful day. I love making fun food and making sure my guests are well fed and happy. Best way I could have spent the day I think. Then I had a show that night and got lots of cute Care Bear valentines and chocolates from the cast members, a good day :).

Hope you all felt loved :). I will try to post more often.

  • Christmas Favorites

Every year Christmas hits me in just a little different way... I like that. This year was a lot different, lots of changes. I wasn't able to go to church this whole month due to crazy rehearsal schedules so I didn't hear a Christmas sermon or sing the songs I usually sing. We didn't have a candlelighting service at church since we have a new pastor who is doing things differently. Mom didn't get here until the 19th so no monster cookies. Mom and Dad forgot to bring "Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol"... the movie we watch every year on Christmas Eve and the copy we bought was defective. We ran out of time to watch "It's a Wonderful Life". But somehow... Christmas still came, and was still good :).

Maybe it is time for some new traditions. And maybe that is a good thing.

Here are some of my favorite events of this year's Christmas...

Favorite song: Come Thou Long Expected Jesus
Favorite book: "Watch for the Light - Readings for Advent and Christmas"
Favorite gift: My brand new alarm clock CD/radio! I have had a tiny little Chinese alarm clock that I bought in Shanghai for $1 and tells the time in Chinese... It is very difficult translating in the wee small hours of the morning
Favorite moments: Making pies and cakes in mom's stead for the big family get together with Carly and playing games with the fam till midnight
Favorite realization: The telling of Jesus' birth never gets old. It always hits me in a new way. This year it was through the shepherds. Who they were and how they got to behold the Ancient of Days as an infant...
Favorite dessert: Chocolate chip pecan pie. I have always hated pecan pie, but throw in a couple of chocolate chips... magic!
Favorite movie: "White Christmas"... that always wins. Rosemary Clooney has the voice of an angel.

    Happy Chrismtas to all :)

  • my house

I have been promising this post for ages! This is my house. My parents moved out in June and Carly, Mariah and I been making the house I have lived in for 20 years our own. So without further ado...

    The living room!

    James B 025

This is my Raggedy Ann room that I have been dreaming about for years. The quilt was made by my grandma Smith and is perfect for this room :)

This is the basement. I did a fancy paint job to make our large space into two separate rooms and I'm a little proud :) The stripes are supposed to gradually mesh the two rooms.

My room is the same so no need to see that. And Carly's room is a mess so here is Mariah's room :)

Anyone who has been in our house will appreciate how different this is. Its fun :). I feel like an adult. And these are the guitars I made for my 5th grade musical that was this last week. The musical was a hit and has nothing to do with my house, but I like my cardboard guitars so I thought I would include them.

Hope everyone had lots to be thankful for this week... I know I did :)

  • George Clooney's butt

That's what I'm watching right now :) Mariah rented "Leatherheads"... and I must say I'm not a huge fan of watchikng football because I just don't like their butts all up in the air all the time, what a girlie thing to say... but its true. But if I was going to watch a butt, it might as well be George Clooney's :).

Anyway :). Life in the Towne house smells really good right now. Carly and I have been baking up a storm. We made 3 apple pies and 4 pumpkin pies, with crust made from scratch I might add, for our church's craft bazar this weekend, and I'm making pumpkin cookies because it is November and it is about time. And there is a potluck at church tomorrow so there will be people to help me eat them. Eating wonderful food makes the weeks seem less hectic, though in reality the weeks are getting rougher. My first production at school is in less than two weeks, there are recitals, programs, shows to see, presents to buy, babies being born... wonderful time of year and far busier than I am used to being. And with the weather being so nice I feel obligated to ride my bike and go up into the mountains instead of working... which makes sleep less and less frequent... but I don't mind :). Its good to be busy with good things and eat cookies to keep my energy up.

Thats really all I have to say. I'll try to be more interesting next time.
